Oct. 23, 2019 – On Oct. 22, Indiana Executive Director for Drug Prevention, Treatment and Enforcement Jim McClelland announced that three regional partnerships have been awarded funds to establish recovery networks and seek designation as comprehensive addiction recovery networks. The regional partnerships, which span the entire state of Indiana, include Regional Health Systems in Merrillville, IN, Eskenazi Health and Community Mental Health Center in Lawrenceburg, IN.

Sept. 13, 2019 – The Jewish Community Center Indianapolis (JCC), in partnership with Eskenazi Health, will host several events aimed at educating men and women on important health issues at the Healthy Living Day at the J on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The event will take place at the Arthur M. Glick JCC at 6701 Hoover Rd.

Every autumn health care experts urge almost everyone to get an annual influenza (flu) vaccine. Although we often hear announcements through the media encouraging us to get a flu shot, there is always an undercurrent of doubt, such as “will the flu vaccine make me sick? Does it really work?”

Oct. 16, 2019 – The 24th annual Eskenazi Health Center Cottage Corner Health Fair will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1434 Shelby St. in Indianapolis. Eskenazi Health Center Cottage Corner is partnering with the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police and additional community organizations in providing no cost health screenings including blood pressure and dental screenings, as well as a limited number of flu vaccines for those 9 years of age and older. Macha Family Eye Care will also provide free glaucoma eye screenings.

Oct. 8, 2019 – Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek will host an Eskenazi Health Center Community Day Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., where free health screenings and a limited number of flu shots will be available. Health screenings provided during the health fair at 9443 E. 38th Street will include blood pressure, body mass index, oral health and more. Everyone attending the fair will have the opportunity to receive free giveaways and win door prizes.

Oct. 7, 2019 – Eskenazi Health will host a Nurse Networking Career Event on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 3-6 p.m. Nurses with experience in primary and specialty care, Cath lab/interventional radiology, transition support, per diem/central staffing, emergency department, neonatal intensive care unit, burn, transition support, perioperative services, critical care and acuity adaptable will learn of current opportunities. Bilingual nurses are needed as well. The event is open to all registered nurses (RN) and new RN graduates and will include two sessions. The first session starts at 3 p.m. and the second session starts at 4:30 p.m. Nursing candidates only need to attend one of the sessions.

As many of us look forward to our favorite fall festivals and enjoying Halloween celebrations, this is also the time when everyone who enjoys seasonal bonfires and the pleasant smell of burning leaves needs to remember to be as careful as possible to avoid burn injuries. Serious wounds may result from improper and irresponsible use of gasoline, kerosene and other accelerants that can turn a pleasant seasonal get-together into a potentially disastrous situation.
