May is Stroke Awareness Month, and Dr. Juan Tejada of the Eskenazi Health Stroke Center recently shared some general information about what a stroke is, different treatment methods and what Eskenazi Health is doing to advance its care for stroke patients.

Simon Townsend joined Eskenazi Health in 1999, and his current role is manager of Eskenazi Health Center Primary Care – Adult Medicine & Pediatrics. The primary care center on the downtown campus is located on the second floor of the Sandra Eskenazi Outpatient Care Center and provides primary care, gynecology, obstetrics, mental health and addiction services, patient navigation, financial counseling, respiratory therapy and more.

It also comes on the heels of being named on the Forbes list of "America's Best Employers 2018."

May 10, 2018 – Salaam will perform a mix of traditional and original Middle Eastern music on Thursday, May 17, as Eskenazi Health hosts the first of its Performer-in-Residence program concerts. The noon performance will take place in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse on the first floor of the Sandra Eskenazi Outpatient Care Center.

May 8, 2018 – This morning, the Eskenazi Health Foundation announced the new St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild Center for Nursing Excellence at Eskenazi Health. This center will focus on recruiting and retaining high quality nurses with an emphasis on continuing education opportunities that support nurses and enhance their discipline-specific technical skills.

May 3, 2018 – On Tuesday, May 15, the Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market will kick off its 11th season of providing fresh and local produce, fresh baked goods, plants and other market items to the public. In addition, the market will offer a variety of music as well as resources and techniques to help reduce stress and improve mood.

May 2, 2018 – The American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons have re-verified the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health as a recognized adult burn center. This achievement applauds the team’s dedication to providing the highest level of care for burn patients. The verification report also included a special commendation for the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center’s commitment to excellence and to providing quality burn care to its patients – a rare mark of distinction given to few burn centers across the country.

INDIANAPOLIS, May 1, 2018 – Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) and Indiana University’s Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI announced today the launch of a new neighborhood-based, data-driven pilot in Indianapolis to help address the high incidence of diabetes. Lilly and Indiana University’s Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI are implementing the pilot with Eskenazi Health, Local Initiatives Support Corporation Indianapolis (LISC) and the Marion County Public Health Department.

Indianapolis, April 23, 2018 – The Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Eskenazi Health campus has been recognized as a Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational branch of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization. Eskenazi Health is one of only two health care systems in Indianapolis receiving top recognition by the HRC. The other is the VA Richard L. Roudebush Medical Center.
