Three years ago, Daniel Lee Rogers was at work and fell 10 feet after slipping and landing on a concrete floor. The result of the mishap was a separated acromioclavicular joint, which is a frequent injury among physically active people. When that injury occurs, the clavicle (collar bone) separates from the scapula (shoulder blade), which is often caused by a fall directly on the point of the shoulder or a direct blow received in a contact sport.

Dec. 11, 2019 – The Eskenazi Health Foundation Board of Directors has approved a $500,000 grant for Eskenazi Health to accelerate the integration of social determinants of health into clinical care. Already a local and national leader in addressing social determinants, Eskenazi Health will accelerate ongoing initiatives while also exploring new innovations. Eskenazi Health will work with the IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI among many other community partners, to assess how and where social determinants of health are impacting patients at Eskenazi Health. Once identified, patients can be referred to in-house or community-based programs and services that complement their medical care. The effort will include automated decision support into the electronic health records system at Eskenazi Health to standardize the identification and referral process.

Dec. 6, 2019 – Resident musicologist, pre-concert lecturer, program annotator for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and accomplished pianist Marianne Tobias, Ph.D., and special guest vocalist Steven Stolen, will perform a concert of holiday music at the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 11 beginning at noon.

If you experience those feelings ordinarily, the holidays may intensify those emotions due to seasonal factors that include a lack of sunlight, shopping pressures, family issues and setting unrealistic expectations during the holidays. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons, may add to the intense feelings of sadness and despair this time of year.

Nov. 25, 2019 – Thanksgiving is the favorite holiday of many Americans, and as you’re enjoying time with family and friends on that special day, the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health wants you to be aware of numerous safety issues we should all take precautions against. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Thanksgiving is the peak day each year for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas Day, Christmas Eve and the day before Thanksgiving. According to the NFPA, there are more than three times as many cooking-related fires on Thanksgiving than the daily average.

Nov. 13, 2019 – On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Eskenazi Health Winter Market returns for a new season at a new location. From 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., the first floor in the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, near the bust of Sidney and Lois Eskenazi, will transform into a market with several local vendors in an energetic and open atmosphere.

Indianapolis, Nov. 4, 2019 – With the open enrollment period for 2019 health insurance plans having already begun, the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and two additional Eskenazi Health Center locations will host a special opportunity for Central Indiana residents to learn about and sign up for various health coverage plans on Enroll Indianapolis Day on Saturday, Nov. 16.
