More than 12,000 people in Indiana are living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) – the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Each year hundreds of new HIV infections are reported in Indiana. Early identification and treatment of HIV infection helps the person diagnosed to live a long and healthy life. It also reduces the spread of HIV to others.
