Thank you for your interest in the Eskenazi Health Childbirth Education Class. We’re excited to partner with you to help you prepare for the birth of your baby. Participants will:
- Prepare for labor: Recognize the signs and stages of labor and know when it’s time to come to the hospital.
- Navigate a hospital birth: Learn what to expect from admission through labor, delivery and the immediate
postpartum period.
- Learn comfort measures for labor: Explore movement, positioning, and breathing techniques; massage; and other
strategies to provide comfort during labor.
- Understand medical interventions: Learn about labor induction, fetal monitoring, pain-relief options, epidural
anesthesia and common procedures that may be part of the birth experience.
- Prepare for delivery: Learn about pushing, different birth positions, vaginal birth, cesarean birth and what to expect immediately after delivery.
- Plan for recovery: Understand postpartum recovery, pain management, normal postpartum changes, warning
signs and when to seek medical care.
- Prepare for baby’s arrival: Learn about newborn care, feeding, skin-to-skin contact and what to expect during
while in the hospital.
- Feel confident and informed: Gain the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions and actively participate
in the birth experience.
- Take a tour of the Family Beginnings unit including labor and delivery rooms and postpartum rooms.
