Eskenazi Health to Host Indy Jazz Fest Concert on Sept. 4

Free event features the Indy Jazz Fest Band on The Commonground at Eskenazi Health

Indianapolis, Aug. 30, 2018 - Eskenazi Health is once again partnering with the Indy Jazz Fest to celebrate the rich history of jazz in our city by kicking off the annual festivities with a free concert featuring the Indy Jazz Fest Band on Tuesday, Sept. 4, on The Commonground at the Sydney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, 720 Eskenazi Ave. The concert begins at 12 p.m. Parking is available in the Eskenazi Health Parking Garage.

Held in conjunction with the weekly Farmers’ Market at Eskenazi Health, the Indy Jazz Fest Band will perform a musical journey through “The Big Beat.” The special concert will be led by Rob Dixon, saxophonist and artistic and education director of the Indy Jazz Fest.

This lunchtime performance will feature a sampling of the sounds that will make this year a celebration of high energy, inventive artistry and Indianapolis’ rich musical legacy. In keeping with this concept, expect selections weaving between Latin jazz, hard bop, funk and groove and an 80th birthday musical tribute to Freddie Hubbard, the legendary Indianapolis trumpeter still known throughout the world as a musical force.

The annual Indy Jazz Fest runs Sept. 13–22, with Eskenazi Health being recognized at the following three shows:

  • Grammy-winning keyboardist Cory Henry performs at Shortridge High School on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m.
  • Grammy-winning guitarist Larry Carlton at The Athenaeum on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Special closing night block party at The Jazz Kitchen on Saturday, Sept. 22, starting at 3 p.m.
