Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center invites mental health professionals to attend our virtual educational speaker series. This webinar is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10 from 4 - 5 p.m.

Brittaney Kozlovic, LCSW, LCAC, training and development facilitator with the John & Kathy Ackerman Mental Health Professional Development Center at Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, will present “Normalized, Minimized, Missed: Identifying the Early Signs of Substance Use Disorders.”

Kozlovic will explore how substance use disorders often go unrecognized in behavioral health settings, particularly when clients initially present with mental health concerns rather than substance-related problems. The presentation examines addiction as a spectrum, highlights key risk factors and early warning signs, and addresses how stigma, symptom overlap, and minimization can contribute to missed opportunities for identification and intervention. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of co-occurring disorders, and the unique role behavioral health professionals play in recognizing mild or emerging substance use disorders and intervening before they progress.

Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center’s monthly speaker series is free to attend. Eligible participants (LMHC, LMFT and LCSW) have the opportunity to earn CEUs by attending the presentation.
