Eskenazi Health to Host Indy Jazz Fest Concert Preview on Sept. 9

Free event features jazz artists Rob Dixon and Steve Weakley at Eskenazi Health

Indianapolis, Sept. 5, 2019 - Eskenazi Health is once again partnering with the Indy Jazz Fest to celebrate the rich history of jazz in our city by kicking off the annual festivities with a free concert at noon on Monday, Sept. 9, at the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, 720 Eskenazi Ave.

Everyone is invited to the free concert that will take place in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse at Eskenazi Health. Parking is available in the Eskenazi Health Parking Garage.

The concert will be led by Rob Dixon and his jazz combo. Dixon is a renowned saxophonist and the artistic and education director of the Indy Jazz Fest. Dixon will be accompanied by celebrated guitarist Steve Weakly, who grew up playing on Indiana Avenue, and later joined and recorded with the legendary funk/soul jazz group Funk Inc. that was founded in Indianapolis.

Everyone attending the concert will enjoy a celebration of Indiana Avenue’s rich jazz legacy in an exciting kick off to Indy Jazz Fest 2019 that runs Sept. 12-21.

Eskenazi Health’s involvement with this year’s Indy Jazz Fest includes sponsoring the UF Block Party 2019 featuring 12 bands on 2 stages on the final day of Indy Jazz Fest 2019 on Saturday, Sept. 21. The closing night celebration from 4 p.m.-midnight will feature music inside and out on the corner of 54th St. and College Ave., where everyone on hand may enjoy great food, drinks and jazz music. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

Indy Jazz Fest is a year-long project of the 501(c) 3 non-for-profit Indianapolis Jazz Foundation that’s committed to keeping the legacy and future of jazz in Indianapolis at the forefront. The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation is supportive of all organizations that wish to promote jazz and encourage both individuals and organizations to utilize its resources to help further jazz awareness and the vibrant jazz scene in Indianapolis.
