The Marianne Tobias Music Program at Eskenazi Health is hosting a free tribute concert in honor of the late Marianne Tobias and the great impact she made on the Indianapolis music community on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse. All are welcome to attend.

Featured performers include Joshua Thompson, piano; Okara Imani, voice; Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra musicians Kent Cook, piano, Jennifer Christen, oboe, Alistair Howlett, flute, and Sherry Hong, violin; select dancers from Dance Kaleidoscope; and Nicha Stapanukul and Tim Stephenson, piano.

Marianne was instrumental in the creation of The Marianne Tobias Music Program, having provided an endowment for the program and a concert grand piano. Her efforts coincided with Eskenazi Health’s vision of developing a public art program engaging in all forms of art for the enjoyment of patients, visitors and staff. Since the program’s inception in 2013, hundreds of concerts have taken place at the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and have been live-streamed to all patient rooms in the 333-bed hospital. The piano, which is located in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse on the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, is accessible to the public 24 hours a day and all are welcome to play it.

Marianne, who passed away in July 2023, was a musicologist, accomplished pianist, lecturer and program annotator for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for more than 35 years. She lent her time and talents to a variety of organizations and served on many boards including those at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Museum of Art and the International Violin Competition, to name a few. Marianne was a generous philanthropist and provided support in a variety of ways through endowments, contributions, and grand piano donations.

The tribute concert will be broadcast live and viewable from all televisions on the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, including patient rooms, on channel 17. Should you have any questions, please call 317.880.4801.
