Built on the roof of the Sandra Eskenazi Outpatient Care Center, The Sky Farm at Eskenazi Health is open to patients, staff and the community as a space to engage with and learn about produce, how it grows and why it’s important to a healthy lifestyle. Part of the healing environment of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, The Sky Farm includes approximately 5,000 square feet of available growing spaces in which more than 3,000 pounds of produce are harvested every year.
Crops grown in The Sky Farm include kale, tomatoes, carrots, beets, turnips, fennel, greens, lettuce mix, arugula, spinach, tatsoi, broccoli, cabbage, scallions, peas, pumpkins and squash. Flowers are also planted for visual interest as well as for arrangements. Using a beehive with 500 bees to increase crop production, produce from The Sky Farm is integrated into menus at the Ingram Micro Mobility Marketplace and Café Soleil and served in patient meals.
To access The Sky Farm, please take the Green Elevators in the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital to the seventh floor.
