Burn Survivor Support Services- Programs - Eskenazi Health

Burn trauma is often more than skin deep. Many burn survivors also experience emotional, spiritual, social and psychological effects. Some have difficulty with activities of daily living, relationships, work and being in public. Burn injuries also affect survivors’ families and loved ones. The Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health offers emotional support and resources to help survivors in their journeys. Some of the programs include:

Phoenix SOAR®

Phoenix SOAR® (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) at Eskenazi Health provides one-to-one, peer support visits to those whose lives have been affected by a burn injury.

Burn Survivor Support Group

This monthly group and luncheon provides survivors an opportunity for fellowship with other burn survivors and to share their stories and challenges in a safe environment. Guest speakers are invited, on occasion, to help survivors with specific challenges they may be experiencing. The group meets the fourth Thursday of every month at 12:30 p.m. in the BKD Conference Room at Eskenazi Health.

Burn Survivor Social Re-integration Program

Several times every year, burn survivors and their families gather to enjoy activities in the community. Some past outings have included attending baseball games, going duckpin bowling and playing miniature golf.
