Because burn trauma is often more than skin deep, the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health offers emotional support and resources for burn survivors in their recovery journey.
When people sustain a burn injury, they can experience physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological effects. Some survivors have difficulty adjusting to normal activities and returning to society. This can also affect families and loved ones.
Eskenazi Health offers an array of support services and resources for burn survivors and families, including a support services coordinator to assist those affected by injury.
Phoenix SOAR® (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) at Eskenazi Health provides peer support to those whose lives have been touched by a burn injury. Phoenix SOAR is a nationally developed program that matches trained peer supporters (former patients and their families) with current burn patients and families to provide hope and encouragement in one-to-one visits.
Burn Survivor Support Group
In this monthly group, burn survivors share their challenges and experiences to provide one another with emotional support. Guest speakers are invited occasionally.
The group meets the third Thursday of every month from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health.
