Primary care physicians (PCP) are a patient’s key to getting healthy and staying healthy. Eskenazi Health encourages Indianapolis residents to call Health Connection to get connected with a PCP at one of our clinic locations.
What is a Primary Care Physician?
A primary care provider, or PCP, is in charge of your basic health needs (routine checkups, treats common illnesses like colds and the flu, makes referrals to medical specialists) and offers you and your family valuable information about other ways to maintain good health and prevent disease. Your PCP could be a family practitioner, general practitioner, or nurse practitioner located within a Eskenazi Health primary care outpatient clinic.
What are the benefits of having a PCP?
- After a couple of visits, your PCP will know your overall health history and what is normal – and not normal – for you.
- Unlike going to the Emergency Department, you have the chance to become familiar with your doctor.
- You can use a PCP appointment to discuss any type of illness – your PCP will either treat you or refer you to a specialist.
- PCPs aren’t just there to make you better when you are sick; they can also help you with preventative steps to maintain good health.
