The Wishard/IU Level I Trauma Center doesn’t just work within its own walls. The Trauma Center collaborates with many other subspecialties within Wishard, including the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Physical and Occupational Therapy and Nutrition Services. By collaborating with other departments throughout Wishard, the Level I Trauma Center can better serve patients and provide comprehensive care.
Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care
The Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care Unit is a vital component of the long-term care that is provided to Trauma Service patients. Specialized nurses with a 2:1 patient-to-nurse ratio staff this facility. It is the established level of communication that occurs between physicians, nurses and other health care providers that is key to our patients’ success.
Wishard Health Services has a long history of providing the residents of central Indiana with state-of-the-art emergency services. Wishard operates one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the state of Indiana, caring for over 106,000 patients in 2010. The Emergency Department is staffed and equipped to evaluate and manage any type of acute illness or injury with a 93 bed capacity ranging in acuity from resuscitation rooms to monitored beds and examination rooms.
Wishard Hospital has 13 operating rooms. As a Level I Trauma Center, a dedicated trauma operating room is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The operating rooms are fully equipped with up-to-date and state-of-the-art equipment that assists our staff with providing optimal care for our trauma patients.
