Michael & Susan Smith Emergency Department HIV Program at Eskenazi Health
The Michael & Susan Smith Emergency Department HIV Program at Eskenazi Health provides free HIV screening to registered patients. We have provided HIV testing and counseling to thousands of patients since we began our program in March of 2008. We are supported, in part, by funding from the Ryan White Part A grant. The program also receives support from the Indiana State Department of Health and OraSure Technologies.
While we began with HIV testing in the Michael & Susan Smith Emergency Department at Eskenazi Health, we are developing programs to link those currently living with HIV into definitive care with our Infectious Disease Clinic. We are also working to provide HIV testing in Eskenazi Health Center.
Our mission is to improve the lives of individuals living with HIV and those at risk for contracting HIV disease through patient-centered initiatives. These initiatives are consistent with the mission of Eskenazi Health to Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve. We choose to define success in this program as positively impacting our patients through service, education and research while remaining true to the core values of humility, compassion and respect for others.
