Due to increasing patient volumes, Eskenazi Health is looking for nurses to fill positions in a variety of departments. The departments include the operating room, Michael & Susan Smith Emergency Department at Eskenazi Health and critical care areas to name a few.
In addition to online applications, prospective candidates can visit the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, 720 Eskenazi Ave., on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 3 to 7 p.m. for a Nursing Recruitment Fair. Free parking will be available in the Eskenazi Health Parking Garage.

Having moved to our new campus in Dec. 2013, Eskenazi Health provides nurses the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility with the latest equipment and tools," said Lee Ann Blue, MSN, RN, executive vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at Eskenazi Health.
The fair will be held in the Rapp Family Conference Center, located on the first floor of the Eskenazi Health Outpatient Care Center. Nurses will be able to speak with representatives from various ancillary departments, Eskenazi Health Human Resources and Nursing Shared Governance. In addition, nurses can submit an application, and some candidates may be interviewed on the spot. The event will also offer tours of the main Eskenazi Health campus in downtown Indianapolis.
"The recruitment fair is intended to be a way to bring nurses into our facilities and to offer them a glimpse of the great care and services we provide to our patients," said Christia Hicks, vice president of Human Resources at Eskenazi Health. "There are a lot of advantages to working at Eskenazi Health, and we want nurses to experience and see firsthand what it would be like to be part of our team.
"The 1.3 million square foot downtown Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital facility includes a 315 inpatient-bed hospital with 19 operating rooms and four interventional labs, 12 labor and delivery rooms, a Level II NICU, a 100-bed treatment room emergency department, including a 16-bed clinical decision unit, more than 200 ambulatory clinic exam rooms, one of only two adult Level I trauma centers in the state, and the only adult burn center serving Central and Southern Indiana.

Along with increased patient volume, nursing shortages are attributed to a variety of factors including an aging work force of nurses. The average age an RN graduates is 31, causing them to enter the workforce at a significantly older age than other professions. According to Nurses for a Healthier Tomorrow, approximately 50 percent of the RN population will retire in the next 15 years.
