The Eskenazi Health Midtown Crisis Respite Unit is a 15-bed sub-acute unit that provides current Eskenazi Health Midtown clients and transitional clients with an opportunity for respite for stabilization of mental health symptoms. This unit is designed for clients who do not meet criteria for an inpatient admission but need further stabilization for a brief period of time in a protected environment. The expected length of stay on average is two to five days.
Clients may be referred to Crisis Respite via the Thota Rao, M.D., & Aruna Rau, M.D., Crisis Intervention Unit, Eskenazi Health Midtown Triage, the Kathi & Bob Postlethwait Mental Health Recovery Center, or an outpatient clinic. Placement depends on bed availability and needs from acute care areas. In order to maintain accurate bed availability, referring staff must contact the Crisis Respite Unit and speak with a nurse about availability.
