Lee Ann Blue Honored with Achievement in Medicine Award 

Wishard's chief nursing officer applauded for her dedication to patient care

, May 3, 2012 -- St. Margaret's Hospital Guild and Indiana Blood Center announced today that Lee Ann Blue, executive vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at Wishard Health Services, has been awarded the prestigious Achievement in Medicine (AIM) Award.

Blue was nominated by Kevin Johnston, director, Patient Care Business Operations and a longtime colleague. Indiana Blood Center annually sponsors the award.

In his nomination letter, Johnston said that Blue "truly lives the Wishard mission with a servant's heart. Her compassion and attention to the needs of so many is evident in all that she does." He wrote that Blue leads with "passion, integrity, wisdom and much common sense."

Blue is responsible for nursing and Patient Care Services at Wishard as well as the planning and implementation of the new Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, which is set to open in December 2013. Prior to coming to Wishard, Blue served in a nursing leadership role at Deaconess Health System in Evansville, IN. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from McKendree College in Lebanon, IL, and her master's degree in nursing from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL.

In addition to working in nursing and health care administration, Blue has served as an adjunct faculty member at several schools of nursing including the University of Southern Indiana and the Indiana University School of Nursing.

Blue is also active in a number of organizations including Sigma Theta Tau, Central Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives, Indiana Organizations of Nurse Executives and the Indiana Center for Nursing (ICN). Blue is married to Ron Blue, and they have four sons and three grandchildren.

The AIM Award recipient is selected by the St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild. The guild is a volunteer organization committed to raising funds for the services and programs of Wishard Health Services. Founded in 1907, the guild has raised more than $10 million for Wishard throughout the years. This is the 14th year for the AIM Award.

St. Margaret's Hospital Guild's largest fundraising event is the annual Decorators' Show House and Gardens. This year's event runs through May 13. The show house is located at 5 E. 71st St. (corner of 71st Street and Meridian Street in Indianapolis) and is open for public tours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday (closed Mondays).
