Indianapolis, April 30, 2013 – Enjoy music, face painting and fun activities while visiting dozens of health screenings and information booths at the eighth annual Pecar Family Fun Fest at Eskenazi Health Center Pecar.

On Saturday, May 18, Wishard-Eskenazi Health will present the Pecar Family Fun Fest at Eskenazi Health Center Pecar, 6940 N. Michigan Rd., in Indianapolis. The free health fair will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the entire community. A team of health care professionals will be on hand to answer questions and administer free health screenings in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere.

“This annual event offers a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and at the same time allow the public to come and see the types of services we offer,” said Dr. Dawn Haut, medical director, Eskenazi Health Center Pecar. “By providing free health screenings and helpful advice from medical experts, the northwest Indianapolis community will have a chance to learn about healthy living tips this spring in a fun and friendly environment.”

Health checks provided during the fair will include blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, STD and HIV testing.  Participants will also have the chance to visit a wide variety of information booths on topics such as nutrition, dental care, mental health, community resources, tuberculosis, WIC and more. Spanish interpreters and bilingual pamphlets and health information will also be available at the fair.

In addition to the numerous health screenings and informational booths, there will also be music, snacks and fun activities. Face painting for kids will also be offered, and door prizes will be awarded throughout the event. The Marion County Public Health Department will provide child car seat and crib safety demonstrations.

Eskenazi Health Center Pecar, which is located on the Jim and Lois Ackerman Health Campus, provides a medical home for families in the areas of internal and family medicine, pediatrics adolescent care, family planning, dental care and social services. The center is one of 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. The center opened in 2003 to benefit northwest Indianapolis residents and was established in memory of Philip and Vivian Pecar. The center is a collaborative initiative of the Marion County Public Health Department, Wishard-Eskenazi Health, Eskenazi Medical Group, Eskenazi Health Center, and Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County.

This year’s fair sponsors include Wishard-Eskenazi Health, the Marion County Public Health Department, Eskenazi Health Center and Hinckley Springs. For more information about the Pecar Family Fun Fest, please call 317.266.2901.
